And it’s that time of the year. Time for one
of the most prestigious and sought-after exams in India. Over two lakh
MBA aspirants will appear for CAT exam tomorrow. All competing for
getting into their desired B-school after a year (or years) full of
committed efforts and handwork. Having passed through the same phase a
few years back, I can totally relate to their present state of mind.
Here’s something I want to share with all the serious CAT aspirants.
Dear serious CAT aspirants,
It’s certainly an important exam for you. And feeling nervous a night before is totally normal. Having undergone a series of mock tests during the preparation stage and getting fluctuating (unstable) mock scores, you must be having self-doubts about how will you perform tomorrow. Probably you might have scored quite badly in one of your recent mocks. And it has scared you even more. But believe me, none of your mock scores are representative of what score you can get in actual CAT, as these mock scores are not much based on your subject knowledge or skills but rather how you have attempted a particular test. And attempting a test is a game of question selection.
You have prepared enough. From the questions that will be asked in the exam tomorrow, you certainly know enough questions that you can answer correctly and get your desired score. The only thing you need to be conscious of is to not get stuck on the questions that you find difficult or time consuming to attempt and skipping them in time and moving on to remaining questions and finding the ones you can answer easily and accurately. Emphasizing again, there are enough such questions to get you a decent score. Find them and solve them.
Also, go with a mindset that it’s just an exam. It’s certainly an important exam for your career. But do not think that it’s your last chance and if you do not perform well tomorrow, you will lose the career battle. It will only create unnecessary pressure in your mind and affect your performance (attempts and accuracy). There are tons of opportunities available to excel in your career. This year’s CAT is just one of them. (This is something you yourself will realise some years later.) Be calm and at peace. And give your best shot tomorrow. All the best!
